WHAT WE DO
We make hand crafted knives, all designed for use in the bush. We do everything from periodic model drops (all made in-house) to bespoke one of a kind custom pieces, to folding knives. Untamed Knives is a very small family business. Vaughan has the pleasure of being in the bush for most of the year. Ross works on every single knife that is made, along with a small two-man team that assists in some of the tasks such as rough grinding and hand-sanding. Danielle handles all of the admin, including keeping Ross and Vaughan on the level!
VAUGHAN VOSLOO
I’m 24 years old and have been filming and hunting professionally for the better part of nine years. I’ve had the privilege of hunting with many incredible hunters across Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Cameroon, Mozambique, and many other amazing places. I’ve lived in the bush and hunted my whole life, alongside my cousin Ross, who is a few years older than me. Filming has always been a passion of mine, and bringing the beauty of our wild continent to people’s screens, wherever they may be, allows me to share the importance of ethical hunting and the utilization of wildlife. Ensuring our wildlife has a future through well-managed, ethical hunting is what we are all about here. Wildlife is my passion, and I’m proud to play a part in protecting it.
ROSS VOSLOO
I’ve been a knife maker for the better part of nine years, and have been doing it full-time for a good portion of that time as well. I am also an Apprentice Smith with the American Bladesmith Society (ABS) and hope to become a Journeyman Smith in next few years. What got me into knives was simple – you grow up in the bush, and you always have a knife on you. It’s one of those tools where, when you need a knife, no other tool will do. I’ve always loved knives and have always enjoyed making things with my hands, so becoming a bladesmith was a natural extension of what I wanted to do in life. I've been deeply invested in making knives for years, and it's something I'll carry with me for decades ahead.
DANIELLE VOSLOO
Ross and I have been married for 11 years, and it's been amazing to see how he has grown as a knife maker. Having a Secretarial Diploma behind me has always been useful when it comes to running an office. I have had years of experience with customer service (the most challenging aspect of my job, but also the most rewarding), as well as with general administration. So it was only natural that I would offer to assist the boys and help keep them organized with the running of Untamed! Besides the admin, I do all the packaging of the knives (all the pretty-making) because product presentation has always been important to me. With my day job being a qualified nail technician, detail is key to success. It translates well across the two fields.
